Vulval
complaints
Many women suffer from vulval or personal problems, but are too embarrassed
to seek help. Some of the common skin conditions can affect the vulval
area – for example eczema and psoriasis – but often the
vulval symptoms are untreated because of reluctance to talk about these
problems. Also, there are a number of specific vulval complaints that
can cause itching, pain or discomfort such as lichen sclerosus, erosive
lichen planus of the vulva, vulval pain syndromes (vulvodynia, vestibulodynia),
and vulval pre-cancers / cancers. Some of these conditions also affect
young girls.
Dr. Anne Ward is
an accredited Consultant Dermatologist who has undertaken specialist
training in the diagnosis and treatment of vulval conditions. She is
a member of The British Society for the Study of Vulval diseases (BSSVD).
She receives referrals from General Practitioners, Consultant Gynaecologists
and other Consultant Dermatologists in the Region.
