Vulval complaints
Many women suffer from vulval or personal problems, but are too embarrassed to seek help. Some of the common skin conditions can affect the vulval area – for example eczema and psoriasis – but often the vulval symptoms are untreated because of reluctance to talk about these problems. Also, there are a number of specific vulval complaints that can cause itching, pain or discomfort such as lichen sclerosus, erosive lichen planus of the vulva, vulval pain syndromes (vulvodynia, vestibulodynia), and vulval pre-cancers / cancers. Some of these conditions also affect young girls.Dr. Anne Ward is an accredited Consultant Dermatologist who has undertaken specialist training in the diagnosis and treatment of vulval conditions. She is a member of The British Society for the Study of Vulval diseases (BSSVD). She receives referrals from General Practitioners, Consultant Gynaecologists and other Consultant Dermatologists in the Region.
